A Stateroom with "What a" View

Balcony Cabin on Disney Magic

The most popular type of cabins are veranda, otherwise known as balcony cabins. Vernada staterooms are similar in layout as an outside cabin with an added bonus, a small but functional balcony. Depending upon where the cabin is located on the ship the cabins can be as small as 60sf and up to 200+sf. Popular balcony locations are on the stern, or back, of the ship. These cabins not only offer amazing views and the balconies are usually much larger. Standard size balconies include two chairs and a small table which is large enough to hold drinks, binoculars and a couple of good (or trashy) books.

Balcony cabins are slightly larger than inside cabins (generally between 150 and 190sf) and configured with the balcony directly at the back of the cabin. Some are configurated with beds close to the balcony doors, while others have the sitting area close to the doors. These configurations vary from ship to ship. To accommodate friends or families traveling together, many of these cabins are configured with connecting doors that can open up combining two cabins and some have removable privacy screens (which are put in between the balconies) so the balconcies' width can be expanded two fold. Though balcony cabins may have similar layouts, the way they are decorated and furnished varies considerably between ships and cruise lines.

• Twin beds convertible into a queen size bed with under the bed storage and night stands

Dreamworks and RCCL Pair Up

Shrek and Donkey usher a cast of Dreamworks' characters
on board to Royal Caribbean Ships

Giving Disney Cruises and Mickey a run for their money, RCCL has announced their joint venture with Dreamworks, the movie studio responsible for such classics as Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, Monster Vs. Aliens and more. Live characters will be introduced on the soon-to-be-launched Allure of the Seas, the giant sister megaliner to the much loved Oasis of the Seas. The Dreamworks Experience will then come to the Liberty of the Seas starting January 30th, 2011, Oasis of the Seas starting February 26th, 2011 and Freedom of the Seas starting March 27th, 2011.

Don't be Surprised to Find that the Penguins from Madagascar are Steering the Ship

You'll be able to experience photo opportunities with your favorite characters, watch character themed parades, enjoy the How to Train Your Dragon Ice Show (yes, these mega ships have ice arenas for shows and for your own ice skating enjoyment) and the Madagascar Aqua Show, Character Dining (don't worry you're not the meal), Adventure Ocean-an experience for kids sailing onboard, and 3-D movies including Shrek 3, How to Train Your Dragon and Monsters Vs. Aliens, plus special Dreamworks' programs for you in-room TV viewing.

Nip Tuck...Royal Caribbean Style

Well kind of...Royal Caribbean's nipped, but didn't tuck, the 70,000 GTR ton megaship Enchantment of the Seas recently. In June 2005, Enchantment was actually stretched in a shipyard in Rotterdam, adding a 73- foot midsection to her superstructure (stretching her to 990 feet). All said, her new addition, which includes 151 new staterooms, a 15% larger pool deck which includes suspension bridges, two new pools, four whirlpools and an interactive splash deck, an outdoor bar and bandstand, fountains with a fibre-optic light show, four bungee trampolines, the Boleros Lounge, larger art gallery, additional room to the spa and fitness area and the Lattetudes Coffee House, adds on an additional 10,000 gross registed tons to her structure. Now we've heard of gaining 10-15 pounds during a cruise but this is a new "stretch" to the problem of weight-gain on a cruise. Check out the pictures of her Nip-Tuck below.
